Climate Change and Decarbonisation — Smart Grid and Energy Storage

Climate change, as an immediate and global environmental challenge, creates severe risks and uncertainty for sustainable social development. To ensure a safe and prosperous future, by 2050, the UK government must reduce the country's greenhouse gas net emissions by 100% relative to 1990 levels. Smart city, grid, and renewable energy offer a path to a carbon-neutral or even a carbon-free society in the short and long term. This lecture introduces the benefits of implementing the whole system approach for decarbonisation, which can be achieved by developing a smart grid and energy storage technology and commercialisation.

Dr. Lu Xing, Associate Professor, Northumbria University, UK

主讲人简介：

Dr. Lu Xing, Associate Professor from Faculty of Engineering and Environment at Northumbria University, UK and Chair of Partner Portfolio at Renewable Energy Northeast Universities Centres for Doctoral Training. As Chief Scientfic Advisor and Chief Scientist, she participated in developing battery company to spin out of the university in UK. She obtained a master's and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Oklahoma State University, US. Prior to joining Northumbria University in 2020, she was appointed as an assistant professor at Institute of Energy and Power Engineering, China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy for Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Her research interests include AI for green energy, multiscale modelling, smart grid, hydrogen and fuel cell, battery. She led/participated in multiple research projects in renewable energy technology and software development funded by EPSRC, Innovate UK, national research institutes and US Department of Energy. She has published over 70 journal or conference papers and was invited to present her research in several seminars or international conferences.
