National Center of Technology Innovation for Digital Construction (“NCTI-DC”) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China in January 2022.
The center is positioned as a national strategic scientific and technological force in the field of new urbanization in China. Its core mission is to break through the key technologies of digital construction and achieve the industrialization of major research achievements. The center aims to become a leading force in intelligent construction and focuses on key common technologies such as digital design and CIM, intelligent perception and engineering IoT, intelligent construction machinery and robots, and engineering big data platforms and intelligent services. The center will overcome the technological bottlenecks in engineering software, network, hardware, and platform, establish sustainable and open innovation parks, and form a high-level strategic task force that is engaged in the research and development, productization, and industrialization of key technologies in digital construction. This task force will provide strong support for the improvement of enterprise and innovation capabilities in the construction industry, enhance the core competitiveness in the field of digital construction, and create an internationally influential innovation hub. Its strategic role is to support and lead the transformation, upgrading, and high-quality development of China's construction industry.
The center is based at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, with academician Prof. Lieyun Ding serving as the chief scientist. The center will follow an "1+N" construction model, which establishes several common technology laboratories in areas such as digital design and CIM, intelligent perception and engineering IoT, intelligent construction machinery and robots, and engineering big data platforms and intelligent services. The center will also set up technology laboratories and industrial innovation parks in fields such as bridges, buildings, and rail transportation to organize research resources. By strengthening collaborations among relevant universities, research institutes, leading enterprises, and new research and development institutions, and guiding investment from financial and industrial capital, the center aims to promote collaborative innovation and development with multiple entities along the innovation chain and industrial chain of digital construction. It will provide high-quality technology supply, accelerate the transfer of scientific and technological achievements, and promote the formation of a group of first-class enterprises with core innovation capabilities. Additionally, the center will provide innovation services for the incubation, cultivation, and development of technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises, and enhance the innovation capabilities in the field of digital construction in China.
